Note: Gemstones are naturally occurring and as such colours and patterns will vary in each bracelet. Each bracelet is unique and may not be exactly as pictured.

Normally when I choose a gemstone for my monthly birthstone collaboration bracelet with The Vivienne Files, I pick one of the alternate or lesser-known birthstones. For the September birthstone bracelet, I’ve chosen the modern birthstone Sapphire, but in a way you’ve probably never seen it before. The central bracelet of this set of three stackable stretch bracelets features faceted sapphires in blues,  pinks, reds, and greys.

Sapphire is a form of the mineral corundum which occurs in just about every colour of the rainbow. The only colour not called “sapphire” is a particular shade of oxblood red, and that, my Lynxes, is a Ruby. There’s even more confusion to the corundum conundrum (see what I did there?). Before the Middle Ages, folks called Lapis Lazuli “Sapphire” (which comes from the Greek word for Blue). That’s why I’ve used Lapis rondelles to give that “sapphire blue” shade we know and love to the two other bracelets in the set.

And because I’ve never been a fan of rules like “don’t wear white after Labour Day,” I’ve highlighted the Sapphires and Lapis with White Jade stones. These have a touch of sparkle to set off the faceting twinkle of the sapphires.

Sapphire is believed to be the stone of wisdom, and you’d be wise not to pass this bracelet set up!

ABOUT THE GEMSTONES:

Sapphire - Although we associate sapphire with its rich blue colour, this form of the mineral corundum comes in just about every colour of the rainbow. Sapphire is believed to be the “wisdom stone” and throughout history, has been associated with royalty and the clergy. Sapphire is supposed to focus the mind from unwanted thoughts like depression and tension. It’s also a symbol of loyalty, which may be why Sapphire represents the 45th anniversary.

Jade – Jade has been prized throughout history for its durability and beauty, particularly in China, where it is still viewed as a bringer of fortune, prosperity, and luck. Sign us up for more of all of those! While Jade is commonly thought of in its green form, this gemstone occurs in almost every colour of the rainbow, from white and pale yellow through to blue and lavender.

Lapis Lazuli – It’s easy to see why this royal blue gemstone was once prized by royalty. But not only is Lapis Lazuli deep in colour, but it also helps you dig deep within yourself. Lapis is the gemstone of self-awareness. It promotes self-expression, so it’s an excellent gemstone for creatives and those who simply need to reconnect with themselves.
