Monarch Butterfly - Bracelet Set

Red Jaspers, orange agates and garnets, black onyx, and white selenite gemstones combine in this handmade three-bracelet set representing the stunning colours of the Monarch butterfly.

Reds and oranges are not typically colours we associate with spring, but there are many more colors than pastels, pinks, and blues. One very important visitor we've been encouraging into our garden lately is the Monarch butterfly, an important pollinator whose existence is threatened by habitat loss and climate change.

The central bracelet in this set combines gorgeous faceted agate rondelles in a range of red-orange shades. I've used matte and polished black onyx beads to represent the bold black marking of the Monarch's wings. In addition to silver-plated accent beads, I've used tiny orange garnet faceted cubes that have a stunning sparkle when they catch the light.

The two complimentary bracelets have red agate prism focals with more garnet cubes and matte onyx, and plenty of red jasper rounds. In all three bracelets, I've used a new (to me) gemstone, Selenite, to represent the butterfly's white spots. Selenite is a soft stone but is widely used in metaphysical circles as a calming and peaceful crystal.

Spring in the Garden Collection

Spring is my favourite time of year, primarily because I can't wait to get into my garden and begin the growing season. After spending many years as a garden photographer, I still find inspiration for my work in the beauty of nature's blooms and foliage. Nobody paints a more beautiful canvas than Mother Nature.

ABOUT THE GEMSTONES:

Agate – Agate in all its forms is grounding and connects you to Mother Earth. I love working with Agate because of the wide range of colours, from rich greens to rusty red to pretty purples. Agate's makings can be swirling spirals, distinct bands, and stripes, or splashes of colour. Use Agate to centre and balance your energy and reconnect to nature.

Garnet - Garnet is best known for its deep red hue, but it comes in a variety of colours, including green, yellow, and orange, in addition to a range of reds. Garnet is the January birthstone and is believed to balance and stimulate the chakras. Garnet is also known as a stone of commitment and love and assists in releasing negative beliefs.

Onyx – Like Agate, Onyx is a form of Chalcedony, but its bands are parallel rather than curved like in Agates. In its most commonly known state, onyx is black, sometimes with white banding, but it can actually be found in many colours. Onyx is believed to promote stamina and vigor and give you the confidence you need to go out and do great things. Learn more about onyx.

Red Flake Jasper– Red Jasper promotes endurance (consider it an espresso kick for your soul). It stimulates chi, your vital life force, giving you stamina, energy, and determination. This is your ultimate goal-setting gemstone to help you kick butt and take names!

Selenite – This is a specific formation of the mineral gypsum and has prized for its beauty as far back as ancient Egypt and Greece. It actually gets its name from the Greek moon goddess Selene. Selenite is a soft, brittle mineral but nevertheless is a protective stone in metaphysical circles. Selenite is easily scratched and water-soluble, so always store it separately in a dry place when not being worn.
